Conversion of FANUC PMC Ladder Diagram Memory Card Format
The PMC ladder diagram backed up via a memory card is called the PMC in Memory Card Format (Memory card format file). Since it is in machine language format, it cannot be directly recognized, read, or edited by the Ladder-III software on a computer. Therefore, format conversion is required. Likewise, a PMC program edited on the computer cannot be directly saved to the M-CARD; it must also go through format conversion before being loaded into the CNC.
1. M-CARD Format (.001, etc.) → Computer Format (.LAD)
1. Run the LADDER-III software and create a new empty file with the same PMC program type as the M-CARD backup.
2. Select FILE → IMPORT (import M-CARD format file). The software will prompt you to select the source file format—choose M-CARD format.
Proceed to the next step and locate the M-CARD format file to be converted. Follow the default operations as prompted by the software to complete the conversion. The PMC program in M-CARD format will then be converted into a .LAD file, which can be directly recognized, edited, and modified on the computer.
2. Computer Format (.LAD) → M-CARD Format
After converting the PMC in computer format (.LAD) into M-CARD format, it can be stored onto the M-CARD and loaded directly into the CNC. This avoids the need for external communication tools (such as RS-232-C or network cable) for data transfer.
1. In LADDER-III, open the PMC program that needs to be converted. Then, from the TOOL menu, select COMPILE to compile the program into machine language.
• If no errors are reported, the compilation is successful.
• If errors are reported, exit, modify the program, recompile, save, and then go to FILE → EXPORT.
Note: If you want to set a password for the ladder diagram, you can enter the password twice under the compile options.
2. After selecting EXPORT, the software will prompt you to choose the output file type. Select M-CARD format.
Once the M-CARD format is confirmed, proceed to the next step to specify the file name. Follow the software’s default operation to obtain the converted PMC program. Note that the program’s icon will appear as a Windows “unknown file” icon (a format not recognized by the operating system, but only by the FANUC system). The converted PMC program can now be loaded into the CNC directly via the memory card.
